Different Variations of Baccarat

The name baccarat is an Italian word that literally means "zero." The game originated from Italy at around the 1480s when a gambler first played it using a deck of tarot cards. His name was Felix Falguierein. Only the aristocracy, the nobles and the upper class originally played the game.

Baccarat was then introduced to France by the Italians during the 1500s. Baccarat then spread to different parts of Europe and the Americas and has underwent certain modifications and differences in varying elements of the game.

Presently, we have different variants of baccarat in different countries and continents. Baccarat was said to have variations in the following elements: the quantity of players, the quantity of decks, the rules for drawing, the size and layout of the table and the payouts and odds.

The baccarat variations include the mini baccarat, the punto banco in Cuba, the baccarat en banque, the Chemin de Fer in France and European Baccarat. It is speculated that these variations were results of acculturation of different nations to baccarat, thus owning the game.

The mini baccarat is similar to the American baccarat and very popular in the United States. The mini baccarat table is smaller as compared to the American baccarat table. It can accommodate only about 7 players. The table is attended only by a single croupier. The croupier acts as the banker and possesses the shoe as well. It is said that mini baccarat is more popular than other baccarat variations as mini baccarat is not intimidating and has lower bet starters.

The baccarat en banque differs from other baccarat variations because the house funds the game. Only one person must be present at the table with the banker. The banker deals one hand to himself and two to the player. Players are allowed to bet on the hands of the player but not the bank's. The rules for drawing differ with regard to the casino. This baccarat variation maybe found in some European gambling houses.

The punto banco is the Cuban version of baccarat. Its features are the same as American baccarat. It is played as both punto banco and mini punto banco in Europe.

There are other variants of the game of baccarat. I will not mention them here but it is important to note that despite of the many variants of baccarat it is still considered by many to be a game solely for high rollers or the upper echelon of society. Critiques of the game say that the very nature of baccarat's exclusivity and high-class attracts its players to it.
